Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George Announces Major Funding for New Housing Projects

The Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George (AHSPG) is thrilled to announce significant funding for two new housing projects that will provide much-needed homes for the community. The projects, located at 1431 Elkhorn Place and 1943 17th Avenue, are set to bring a total of 74 new units to Prince George.

The funding will support the development of large apartment buildings at 1431 Elkhorn Place (39 homes) and at 1943 17th Avenue (35 homes). These projects are the result of a successful partnerships between AHSPG, Sasuchan Development Corporation, BC Housing and Aboriginal Housing Management Association committed to improving housing availability and quality for indigenous and underserved communities in the region.

“We are incredibly excited about these new projects,” said Julia Sundell, Executive Director of the Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George. “This funding will allow us to continue our mission of ensuring that Indigenous Peoples of all income levels, ages and capabilities have access to safe and affordable housing that promote inclusivity and healthy living through supporting successful tenancies. These new homes will make a significant impact on the lives of many families and individuals.”

The project at 1431 Elkhorn Place will feature a mix of housing options designed to meet the diverse needs of the community, while the development at 1943 17th Avenue will offer similar accommodations, ensuring that a wide range of housing needs are addressed. Both projects will incorporate elements that reflect and honor indigenous cultural heritage, fostering a sense of belonging and community.

This funding initiative highlights the ongoing commitment to addressing housing challenges and advancing reconciliation efforts through tangible, community-focused solutions. AHSPG is grateful for the support from our partners and looks forward to the positive changes these new homes will bring.
