Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Accountant’s role will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the financial operations of our organization. The Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial records and transactions of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Financial Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Budget Management: Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets, ensuring expenditures are aligned with organizational goals and funding restrictions.
- Reporting: Prepare financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, for internal stakeholders and external auditors and funders.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting principles, non-profit regulations, and donor restrictions. Assist with audits and financial reviews.
- Grant Management: Track and report on grant expenditures, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting deadlines.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Internal Controls: Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and prevent fraud.
- Donor Reporting: Prepare and manage financial reports for donors, including acknowledgment letters and impact reports.
- Payroll: Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy in employee compensation and adherence to tax regulations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to support financial planning and budgeting efforts. Provide guidance and support to staff on financial matters.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in a non-profit environment preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with non-profit accounting standards, fund accounting, and grant management.
- Attributes: Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Additional Information:
Wage: Range $72,000 – $85,000 depending upon experience. Benefit package includes 3 weeks of vacation, health and dental coverage.
Schedule: Full-time position; standard office hours 8am-4pm with occasional flexibility as needed.
